It’s Been a While…

Not too much excitement of late.  Got my computer back up and running, so I’m slowly recovering the stuff that I had lost.  Pictures I found lots of backups, but alas they are unsorted.  It will take a while.

On a fun note, Esther and I attended the Taste of Lexus – Evening Edition at Santa Anita Park this past Saturday.  For those of you who don’t know, it’s basically a test drive event where they try to get people interested in the cars.  I believe this year’s Taste of Lexus vehicle lineup is the IS250/350, GS350, RX400h on the “performance” side and a pretty nice luxury side lineup consisting of the LS600HL, GS450H, and perhaps a few other models I’m missing.  Anyhow, the evening edition basically had everything.  All the models displayed, along with the performance side of the track minus the RX open for test driving.  BUT, there was a thinly veiled announcement that the forthcoming IS-F (5.0 V8 400+ horsepower) would be making an appearance.

The rumors were indeed right.  Instead of just having dyno runs for us to hear, they actually made the IS-F dyno a Taste of Lexus event and let everyone who wanted to run the IS-F on an unofficial quarter mile run!  Now, being a pilot production vehicle, everything lined up much better than the original prototype that had been showing around, and the overall fit and finish was typical Lexus quality.  If I had to wager a guess based on my rather uncalibrated butt-dyno, I would guess at somewhere around 430-440 hp.  Wow, getting tempted…

In other news, Esther and I have been attending pre-marital classes at church.  So far so good.  I like that it makes us think about things that we might normally not, and talking about stuff in a group definitely helps.  NO, it isn’t like the time when Marge and Homer went to counseling.

Catching Up

Weekends still go by too fast.

I had Friday off, so most of it was spent running errands with Darren, since he was still on vacation.  Hit Best Buy and then headed down to the South Bay for some shiatsu action before meeting with Esther for some yummy Korean BBQ.

On Saturday, Esther was off to Cabazon, so I woke Darren up and headed down to the E-Z Up Outlet in Santa Fe Springs.  Man, they have some nice products.  Darren and I each ended up picking one of the cheaper models, but we were both tempted to pick up their folding chairs as well.  Bourne Ultimatum at night.

Sunday was our first pre-marital class at church.  You could tell everyone was still somewhat uncomfortable with being open in a class setting.  Afterward we met up with the crew at Huntington for a bbq/bonfire.  The E-Z ups sure came in handy.

Weekend over.

By the way, anyone consider running a RAID array in their computer should seriously think about having a hot spare available to swap in, just in case one of your drives decides to crap out. =P

Bourne Ultimatum

Definitely a satisfying finish to the series.  Well to the original trilogy anyway.

Good action, the only real annoyance was the shaky camera fight scenes.  It was also used during the Bourne Supremacy, but this was over the top, like in Transformers.

I would still say watching this in the theater was worth it.  My preference is still seeing big action movies on the big screen.

Just don’t sit too close…

The Simpsons Movie

Yay!  Something 18 years in the making?  I remember as a kid staying up past my bedtime to watch the little Simpsons shorts on the Tracy Ullman show.  Yes, I tuned in right around the time I knew they would be on.  Needless to say I was super excited to see the Simpsons Movie.

My take, yes, I loved it.  However, it might be due to the fact that I’m not really a religious watcher of the tv show, so I’m not necessarily tired of all the jokes.

Recommendation:  If you are interested in seeing it now, go for it.  Otherwise, it’s just a cartoon, DVD is just fine.
